What is the PCB Communicator?
The PADS PCB Communicator allows the
I-DEAS user to bi-directionally transfer PCB information. Since all
operations between I-DEAS and PADS
are communicated via the PADS
ASCII
file, there is no need for an additional translator.
Keying off the PADS
file geometry and optional attributes assigned by
the PCB designer, the interface will automatically generate an assembly
containing board, component, and keepout definitions. The I-DEAS
designer can then modify the board outline, keepout areas, and re-locate
components. These modifications can easily be passed back to PADS
with
the click of a button. Alternately, the I-DEAS designer may start
the process by exporting an initial board and keepout definition to the
PCB designer.
In addition to generating a solid representation of a board, the I-DEAS
Designer can also create simple 2D wireframe parts or, with the click of
a single button, generate a 3D wireframe representation of the entire board
with components. This last method typically takes only a few seconds
and is a great way to quickly check a board for fit in an assembly.
Eliminating Duplicate
Efforts
PCB Components, if Checked-In to a Library located in a pre-defined
I-DEAS Project, can automatically be referenced by the interface the next
time they are needed. This eliminates a tremendous amount of redundant
work and allows I-DEAS Designers to easily share detailed components with
one another.
